Our Class Saint
St Frances Xavier Cabrini
St Frances Xavier Cabrini was born July 15th 1850 in Lombardy, Italy. She is sometimes known as ‘Mother Cabrini’ in recognition of her caring, motherly nature.
Maria Cabrini was the youngest of 13 children and she was determined to make religious work her life’s vocation. She taught in Italy during her early life and was appointed supervisor of an orphanage in Codogno. In 1877 she took her vows and changed her name in honour of St.Francis Xavier.
She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacret Heart in 1880, which offered a day school and served orphans. She was guided by Pope Leo XIII to go to the United States to support those in need and to spread her faith.
Although she was plagued by ill health for most of her life, Mother Cabrini established 67 houses in many cities around the world. She also founded several schools, hospitals and orphanages.
St Frances Xavier Cabrini died December 22nd 1917, aged 67. She dedicated her life to God and to serving Him through her kind actions and faith-filled duties.
Her Feast day is celebrated on November 13th. During this day we think of what St Frances Xavier Cabrini did for the poor, the abandoned, the uneducated and the sick.
Feast Day - We will celebrate this in school on Monday 13th November.
