Year 3 & 4

Welcome to Year 3-4!

Meet the Staff

Mrs Catalano - Class Teacher

Mrs Harvey-Oates - Teaching Assistant

Mrs Hartley - Teaching Assistant 1:1

Our Class Saint

Saint Kevin of Glendalough

During our transition sessions in July, Year 3 and 4 chose Kevin of Glendalough to be their class Saint. They chose him because he was a very brave man and spoke so beautifully about Jesus that others became Christians.

He lived as a hermit for seven years wearing only animal skins, sleeping on stones, and eating very sparingly. He went barefoot and spent his time in prayer. Kevin was born to nobility in Ireland, and known there as “Cóemgen,” which means “gentle one.”

We will draw inspiration from how our class saint lived out some of the Catholic Social Teaching Principles and use it as a good model for our own lives.

A prayer for St Kevin

Lord, in your Abbot Kevin, You gave an example of the gospel lived to perfection. Help us follow in him by keeping before us the things of heaven, amid all the changes in this world. Grant this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with and the Holy Spirit, One God, For ever and ever.

Amen

Feast Day - Friday 24th March. We will celebrate this in school on Thursday 6th June.

Summer 2

Class Text

"Secrets of a Sun King" - Emma Carroll

This half term we shall be exploring the classic text "Secrets of a Sun King" by Emma Carroll. Using this narrative we will continue to build upon our inference skills, whilst beginning to consider the author as communicating directly with the reader to convey ideas and make wider implications to the context in which the narrative is set.

R.E.

In our RE lessons, we will look at the following:

Sharing in the Life – The focus will be the Universal Church established upon the Eucharist as the Sacrament which celebrates the Church’s Unity.

Special Roles and Responsibilities – Our final unit will investigate the different tasks and responsibilities given to people in the Church.

Homework

  • Daily Maths and Literacy set each day - Monday to Friday
  • Two pieces of homework (Maths or English as well as one foundation subject) will be handed out on a Thursday and should be completed and handed in on the following Monday. This may be completed on Teams or within weekly homework books.
